WAC Member Jim Tavery Pens Appreciation for Wickenburg Art Club
I’ve always enjoyed Mark Twain’s wit and wisdom. One quote feels especially fitting now that I’m semi-retired: “Life should begin with age and its privileges and accumulations, and end with youth and its capacity to splendidly enjoy such advantages.” While I may not have many accumulations, my capacity to enjoy life’s blessings is still strong.
Growing up in Montana, I spent most of my youth outdoors, developing a deep appreciation for nature. My grade school art teacher might say I had potential, but I spent more time catching brook trout than drawing them. Still, I was inspired by the work of C.M. Russell and always thought I might try painting someday.
That day finally came in the fall of 2024 when I bought my first canvases and paints. Realizing I had much to learn, I joined WAC after hearing about it from my friend Fred Fleck.
My first year has been wonderful. WAC is far more than an art club—it’s a true community where members support, encourage, and care for one another.
“Always do right: this will gratify some people and astonish the rest.”
